Remi Garde Favourite In Next Newcastle Manager Betting
Former Olympique Lyonnais coach Remi Garde has emerged as the favourite to succeed Alan Pardew as the next manager of Premier League club Newcastle United.
The former, Lyon, Strasbourg and Arsenal defensive midfielder is now a best price 9/4 with Titanbet to fill the vacant position at St James’ Park.
All jokes about ‘Le Toon’ aside, the fact that Garde is French may perhaps be a contributing factor to his short price in the market as he shares the same nationality as a number of players in the Magpies squad.
Garde coached Lyon to the 2011-12 Coupe de France title and won the Trophée des Champions (French Charity Shield to you and I) the following season, so would bring a winning mentality to Newcastle should the move go ahead.
In his three year spell at Stade de Gerland, Garde oversaw 117 games of which Lyon won 60, drew 23 and lost 31 to give him a win percentage of 51.28%.
While that record may not have been enought to please title-hopefuls Lyon, it’s perhaps encouraging as Alan Pardew only achieved a 38.38% win percentage during his time at Newcastle which was enough to keep the club in the Premier League and achieve European qualification on one occasion.
McLaren Staying Put
Steve McLaren is out to 10/1 with Betvictor for the position after stating his loyalty to current club Derby County.
The former England coach told the BBC “I have a job to do here, I don’t want to let people down’. “We are halfway through a season and it cannot derail us. Our objective is to push for the Premier League and we feel we are in a good position to do that.”
Former interim Spurs boss Tim Sherwood is next in the betting at 16/1 with a number of online bookmakers, while current caretaker boss John Carver is a 20/1 shot to get the job full time, the same price as Glen Hoddle and Newcastle cult hero Temuri Ketsbia.
