Review Of The Goodwood Festival: Glorious Goodwood Festival Eyecatcher’s

Tuesday

PIVOINE – Got no sort of run in Tuesday’s opener and was bumped in the closing stages. Andrew Balding’s four-year-old still finished a respectable sixth and looks the type to play a part in the Cambridgeshire in a couple of month’s time.

BARON BOLT – Missed the break in the five furlong sprint handicap behind easy winner Under The Covers. Should win again soon when stepping up another furlong.

Wednesday

DOMINATING – Possibly found the extended 2m 4f trip too far in Wednesday’s marathon but can win a decent handicap over 2m to 2m 2f. Could go well in Newmarket’s Cesarewitch in October at a big price.
LORD GLITTERS – Only beaten two lengths in Wednesday’s Group 1 Sussex Stakes despite having to be switched from the rails to get a clear run. Capable of landing a major race over a mile when the ground eases.
ALHAKMAH – A major eyecatcher in Wednesday’s 6f maiden. Towards the rear approaching the final furlong but showed a remarkable turn of foot to be beaten only a neck by a 125-1 chance. Sure to make his mark in better class with this run under his belt.
GLASS SLIPPERS – Another who caught the eye in this maiden. Kevin Ryan’s colt found plenty of trouble in running and looks nailed on to win before too long, possibly in a nursery.

Thursday

BARRISTAN THE BOLD – Strongly fancied to win the 7f nursery following several promising efforts but failed to act on the track. Stone last of the 17 runners early on but made rapid late headway to be beaten only four lengths in fifth. Will be a strong fancy to win a nursery on his next start.

Friday

FIRMAMENT – Not for the first time this season failed to get a clear run, on this occasion in the Golden Mile. Has shown a liking for York so has to be on any short list to win a decent handicap at the Ebor Festival later this month.
