Rodri names the future of Manchester City

Erling Haaland returned to the squad on Wednesday but only started on the bench, once again leaving Julian Alvarez to lead the line.

Alvarez stepped up and netted twice in the 3-1 win to keep Manchester City planted in second place and just off the pace of Liverpool with a game in hand.

After the Burnley win, Rodri has come out and praised Alvarez, labelling him as City’s future: “He’s a good boy [Alvarez]. He doesn’t need to celebrate. I’m so happy for him because his season has been great. He’s now 24 and the future of this club.

“He’s very well adapted [since his transfer from River Plate]. I’m so happy for him.”

On his own goal vs Burnley, the Spaniard added: “I was shouting for Phil [Foden] to pass to me because I knew I was alone, but I was very happy to score and I always say that I could improve in these situations [scoring goals].”
