Sacked Benitez to play waiting game in Liverpool
The return to Liverpool of sacked Inter Milan coach Rafa Benitez has revived whispers that he could be set to reclaim his seat in the manager’s office at Anfield.
Inter Milan confirmed what we already knew when announcing Rafa’s dismissal on its website on Thursday morning, Benitez had already flown the coup and was handing out cups of tea at his Wirral home on Wednesday.
Gabriele Marcotti who writes for The Times and Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sporto thinks the former Liverpool and Valencia chief will get a job in the Premier League and he wasn’t ruling out him taking over from under-pressure Anfield boss, Roy Hodgson.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: I am sure Benitez could soon be back in the Premier League. It’s tricky because a number of clubs and media really don’t like Benitez but there are others who do.
“Can I imagine him back at Liverpool? The ways of football are infinite.”
Benitez’ biographer and close friend Paco Lloret has said that Rafa has had enough of Italy and the only Spanish jobs he’d want are taken, he thinks Benitez and his settled family will be staying on Merseyside waiting for good Premier League opportunity.
Stan James head of PR, Charlie McCann disagrees with football experts; he thinks Benitez will find a managerial position in Spain and is offering odds of 8/1 for Benitez to replace Hodgson.
McCann, whose company have formed a book on Rafa’s next job, said: “Rafa will soon be back in football management but where? A number of Premier League bosses are unlikely to appreciate that Benitez is on the hunt for a new job but we think a return to Spain is likely to be his next move.”
Stan James’ odds for which club Rafa will manage next:
Atletico Madrid 6/1
West Ham 10/1
Aston Villa 16/1
Manchester City 16/1
Blackburn Rovers 40/1
Newcastle United 50/1
Sporting Lisbon 50/1
