Snooker: Shanghai Masters Final Results Round Up
Ali Carter rose to number two in the world rankings after beating Jamie Burnett in the final of the Shanghai Masters on the Shanghai Stage yesterday.
Online bookmakers are offering free bets to new customers throughout the snooker season and the next world ranking tournament is the 12bet.com sponsored World Open at the SECC, Glasgow from 18-26 September 2010.
Sporting Bet have installed Carter at odds of 20/1 to win the Glasgow tournament, formerly known as the Grand Prix, which he joins on Saturday.
In a closely fought Master’s final that featured few high breaks, the Essex man wore down wildcard qualifier Burnett to claim the last two frames for a 10-7 victory.
Carter had to summon his fighting qualities to reach the final, coming from 4-1 down in his quarter-final against Matthew Stevens in a tense encounter.
He started slowly in his semi-final when losing the first two frames to tournament favourite Mark Selby, before responding to win the match 6-2.
Burnett, who hails from Glasgow, was appearing in his first final of a ranking event and the £30,000 runners up cheque means he has already passed his 2009 prize money earnings.
The Scot will miss out on the World Open in his home city, he was beaten 3-0 by Adrian Gunnell at the Sheffield qualifier for the quickfire ‘best of five’ competition.
