Super League: Jake Bibby 4/1 To Hit A Double

Leeds Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington has hit out at the Rugby Football League’s disciplinary process after James Bentley’s three-game ban was extended by a further match.

The second-rower was sent off on his debut during last week’s opening home defeat against Warrington Wolves for a late hit on England playmaker Gareth Widdop.

Bentley was handed an initial three-match suspension but it was extended to four games after what the RFL deemed to be a frivolous appeal, much to the disgust of Headingley supremo Hetherington.

“We spent much of (Tuesday) fielding calls from irate fans, sponsors and some former players, all complaining about the lack of clarity over the RFL disciplinary process,” he told the Yorkshire Post.

“For the James Bentley ban, it was decided to appeal against the grading of the charge, but only after using the services of a recently retired grade one referee who gave his own advice and guidance to us.

“That was supported by new video and photographic evidence which disproved the charge against the player of using a clenched fist and swinging arm.”

“The RFL disciplinary have ruled that our appeal was a frivolous one and have subsequently increased the ban on the player to four games. In our opinion, this raises the whole issue of appeals and does appear to fly in the face of natural justice.”

Leeds travel to Wigan on Friday and are missing a raft of players in Bentley and Brad Dwyer (both suspension), David Fusitu’a (concussion), Rhyse Martin (compassionate grounds) and Richie Myler (groin).

Wigan, who got their campaign off to a winning start at Hull KR last weekend, should edge out the Rhinos in this heavyweight clash.

Wingers Liam Marshall and Jake Bibby both scored twice against the Robins and are 3/1 and 4/1 respectively with Betfred to touch down at least twice again against Leeds.

Given their red-hot start to the season – and Leeds’ current woes – it is worth taking a punt on.
