Lisandro Martinez injury update

It was not all good news for Man United over the weekend, though, as they look set to lose Lisandro Martinez for an extended period yet again.

Martinez was replaced by Raphael Varane with 71 minutes on the clock, with the Frenchman coming on to partner Harry Maguire in the heart of the United defence.

Martinez was making just his third start since a long-term injury lay-off with a foot problem. He returned off the bench against Tottenham Hotspur on January 14, before making his first start since September in the FA Cup win over Newport County at Rodney Parade last Sunday but now looks set for another spell on the sidelines.

Speaking post-match, Erik ten Hag said: “I can’t tell you detail. We have to find out the next days what the diagnosis. It is very bad, very bad for him and the team. He is just returning. He is very important for us. He brings spirit to the team, aside from his football ability.”

On a more positive note, Rasmus Hojlund has become the youngest player to score in four consecutive Premier League appearances for Manchester United.
