Test Cricket: Pakistan v Australia, 2nd Test
In the 1st Test, a slick Australian side took full advantage of a poor 1st innings batting display by Pakistan to secure victory by 150 runs. Apart from vice-captain Salman Butt – who produced respectable knocks of 63 and 92 – there was little evidence that Australia’s bowlers will be overly troubled in the 2nd Test at Headingley.
The way in which the team succumbed to defeat led to Shahid Afridi retiring from Test cricket, handing the captaincy to the aforementioned Butt, who is priced at a tasty 10/3 with Paddy Power to be Pakistan’s Top Batsman again.
Australia are predictably odds-on favourites to win the match, 8/11 with 888sport. But with Pakistan showing hints of recovery during their 2nd innings and always a danger with the ball, odds of 13/2 with bet365 are worth considering.
In the 1st Test, the pick of the Aussie bowlers was part-time spinner Marcus North who took six wickets for 55, including that of the impressive Butt. Despite these figures, North is 12/1 with Stan James to be the Top Australia Bowler. While much will depend on the Headingley pitch, these odds offer real potential value.
As usual, there are some great free bet offers if you open a betting account or two. For instance you can bet £10 and get £20 free with Paddy Power or get up to £50 free with Betfred. See our Betting Offers section for details of these and many more.
Support for Pakistan is likely to be massive in West Yorkshire and Butt will be keen to inspire his team to glory. As such, backing Pakistan in the Draw No Bet market at 7/2 with Blue Square could pay dividends.
