Transfer News: Ferguson Suggests United Have No Need For Ozil
Online bookmakers are offering free bets and refunds for Manchester United’s opening Barclay’s Premier League fixture against promoted Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Monday 16 August.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has suggested he has no need to sign Germany’s rising star, Mesut Ozil, in the summer transfer market.
The Red Devils’ boss was watching the youngster’s club Werder Bremen play Fulham in a pre-season friendly at Craven Cottage on Saturday, to add to rumours that he is preparing a bid for the World Cup star.
But speaking to Sky reporters after United’s 3-1 victory over Chelsea in the Community Shield on Sunday, Ferguson said he was only in London to watch Fulham ahead of United’s Premier League visit on 22nd August.
The Old Trafford boss admits he is an admirer of Ozil, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League after refusing a new contract at Bremen, but he insists that he is happy with his current squad.
Ferguson said: "I was there to look at Fulham.
"Ozil is interesting a lot of teams but at this moment I trust the ones I’ve got. I’ve got a really good squad of players."
“I don’t think people recognise the confidence we have in the young players coming through at the club and we’ll definitely stick with that.”
For once Ferguson is grateful for an England friendly international which will give Wayne Rooney a chance to get closer to full match fitness following his late return to training due to World Cup duty.
The Scot believes the game works in his side’s favour because of the additional rest period before the Newcastle game on Monday night.
Bet365 are offering odds of 2/7 for United to win their first match of the season against Championship winners Newcastle United.
