UEFA Champions League: Bayern Munich v CFR Cluj Preview and Team News
Accustomed to seeing them top the standings, it’s something of a surprise to see Bayern Munich languishing in mid-table in the Bundesliga after six games.
Online bookmakers are offering free bets to new customers ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League Group E game between Bayern Munich and CFR Cluj kicking off at 7.45pm.
There are signs that last year’s Champions League finalists are beginning to turn the corner following a less than confident start to their domestic campaign after, inspired by a Mario Gomez hat-trick, they beat Hannover at the weekend.
Gomez, himself, has been under fire from both Bayern and Germany fans who didn’t think he was pulling his weight in the goalscoring stakes
But the 25-year-old now thinks he’s gone a long way to answering critics and is sure to be in the limelight again as his side host Romanian double winners CFR Cluj.
Whatever Bayern’s failings on the domestic front so far this season, they are proving imperious again in Europe and boast an unblemished record in Group E so far having beaten Roma at the Allianz Arena on match day one and coming from behind to beat Basle in Switzerland in their second outing thanks to a Bastian Schweinsteiger double.
On the same night, Cluj were losing in Rome but did manage a 2-1 victory over Basle in Romania last month.
On paper, this should be a home banker but Bayern will be without Miroslav Klose and Mark van Bommel with Ivica Olic also a doubt.
Cluj have already shown themselves to be organised so Louis van Gaal’s side may not have things entirely their own way and a 1-0 Bayern win at 7/1 with Victor Chandler looks tempting.
