US Open Tennis: Nadal is hot favourite to beat Djokovic in delayed final.
The weather put a dampener on the Flushing Meadows showpiece when the Men’s Singles final was called off due to persistent rain in New York on Sunday.
Bookmakers remain convinced that Rafael Nadal will become only the seventh man to win all four Grand Slam tennis tournaments when he takes on Novak Djokovic in the rescheduled US Open final tonight.
Nadal has been in superb form in reaching his first ever US Open final and is a top price of 2/5 with Ladbrokes to oust Djokovic who survived two match points to beat Roger Federer in five sets on Saturday evening.
Nadal is fully aware of the significance of the match for how his career will be viewed: "The result of this match will change a lot," he said. "It’s another step in my career. It’s a very important match for me."
Nadal has not dropped a set so far at the US Open and will go into the game much fresher than Djokovic .
The 24 year old spaniard has already won the French Open and Wimbledon titles this season and is seeking the ninth grand Slam title of his career .
Djokovic will appreciate the extra day to recover, having completed his semi final in the early hours of Sunday morning and will take encouragement from his recent hard court record against Nadal who he beat in all three matches on the surface last year.
Djokovic said "On hard court I do have my best chances against Rafa but he’s still number one in the world and the one that’s playing great tennis."
Boylesports offer top price on Djokovic at 112/5 but Nadal should prove the stronger and become the first player since Rod Laver in 1969 to win the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open titles in the same year.
