Manchester United fans and Ashley Young were left incredibly frustrated with striker Romelu Lukaku after an incident late on in the win at Leicester City on Sunday afternoon. The Red Devils ended up winning the game 1-0, but Lukaku has not proven popular after this.
Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as manager in December, Lukaku has struggled for regular first team action.
Instead, Marcus Rashford has been playing and scoring more, and he did so at the King Power Stadium, netting the only goal as United kept up the pressure on the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal in the race for Champions League qualification.
Lukaku was given man of the match for his performance in the FA Cup clash with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium two weeks. Despite not scoring in the 3-1 win, his linkup play and general bullying of the Gunners defence really impressed Solskjaer.
But after a disappointing display in the 2-2 draw at home to Burnley in midweek, he was dropped for the trip to the Foxes. After what happened when he came off the bench, it is easy to see why.
In the dying embers of the game, Young receives the ball in space and looks to drive forward. He gestures to Lukaku to make a run to create more space, but the Belgian, who has been criticised for his football intelligence and physique in recent times, is slow to react. Young is then forced to pass the ball to the striker who was instantly closed down and the ball was lost.

Of course, it didn’t matter a great deal in the end with the three points safely taken back to Manchester. But the love affair Lukaku enjoyed with the fans when he arrived from Everton in a staggering £90million deal has long disappeared. They took to Twitter to voice their frustration.
Meanwhile, the clamour for Solskjaer to get the job beyond the end of the season continues to grow.
