Why Arsenal’s Takehiro Tomiyasu was excluded from latest Japan squad

Arsenal were not in action this past weekend and saw the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United gain some ground on them in the Premier League table.

But Mikel Arteta’s side return to the field on January 20 with a home meeting vs Crystal Palace. The Gunners are not in great form ahead of the game but remain clear favourites to beat the Eagles. Back Arsenal to beat Crystal Palace at 1/3 with bet365.

Takehiro Tomiyasu injury update

Ahead of the game, an update on one of Arsenal’s players currently on international duty has emerged.

Takehiro Tomiyasu was excluded from the Japan squad which beat Vietnam 4-2 in their opening group stage game of the Asia Cup on Sunday.

The defender, who was absent for Arsenal due to injury before the Asia Cup, trained individually last week away from the rest of the Japan squad.

Tomiyasu only joined in with full training on Friday for the first time and as he still is not 100 per cent match-fit after just recovering from a calf injury, he was left out of Sunday’s game.

The good news for Arsenal, though, is Japan’s next game in the competition comes against Iraq on Friday and Tomiyasu is expected to return to the squad.
