Why Kieran Trippier has left the England squad

Kieran Trippier has left England’s national team squad due to a personal matter.

A statement from Newcastle on Sunday morning confirmed the unspecified personal issue behind Trippier’s early departure:

“Newcastle United can confirm that Kieran Trippier has returned home from the England squad due to a personal matter. Kieran played 90 minutes as the Three Lions defeated Malta 2-0 in a UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier at Wembley on Friday but will miss Monday’s trip to North Macedonia.”

No information is given regarding Trippier’s availability for Newcastle’s meeting with Chelsea later this week.

But as Newcastle already have a plethora of players out of action, losing Trippier would be a bigger blow than it normally would be.
