Why Raphael Varane missed Manchester United’s loss to Newcastle

Manchester United faced off with Newcastle United at Old Trafford in the 4th round of the League Cup on Wednesday evening.

The Red Devils lost the clash, meaning there will be a new League Cup holder come the end of the campaign.

United will be hoping for better luck this weekend when they take on Fulham in Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off. Back Manchester United to beat Marco Silva’s side at 21/20 with bet365.

Why Varane missed out vs Newcastle

Before facing Fulham on Saturday, Manchester United were knocked out of the League Cup by last season’s finalists, Newcastle.

Raphael Varane was missing again for Manchester United when they faced Newcastle in the League Cup on Wednesday night.

Erik ten Hag made seven changes from the side that was humiliated by Manchester City at the weekend, but there was no place in the matchday squad for Varane on Wednesday yet again.

It is understood Varane missed out due to illness, while all the other changes to the starting line-up were purely on a rotational basis.

United will be hoping Varane is back this weekend, especially as Lisandro Martinez is a long-term absentee and not back until January.
