World Cup 2010: Netherlands v Denmark Match Preview

Soren Larsen is feeling positive that the Olsen Gang could steal Netherlands thunder and upset the World Cup Group E favourites in Denmark’s opening game at Soccer City

Netherlands start their World Cup 2010 campaign against Denmark at Soccer City in Johannesburg on Monday 14th June. The Dutch are bookmakers’ favourites to win Group E with betting odds of 8/15 available with Betfred, Bodog and Totesport.

Robin Van Persie, Wesley Sneijder and co will be brimming with confidence coming into the tournament with a 100% winning record from their qualifying group. They will run onto the pitch as firm favourites to beat the Danes but punters should show some caution before taking the betting odds of 4/7 offered by Paddy Power.

Dutch danger man Arjen Robben is unlikely to figure in the group stages following a small hamstring tear suffered during Saturday’s 6-1 hammering of Hungary.

Danish forward Soren Larsen has said “I’m more nervous about the Cameroon game than the Netherlands actually.”

Hero of World Cup qualifying, scoring 5 times in 5 matches, Larsen believes the Danish team has the potential to cause a few upsets during the campaign. Speaking of the team strength, he added “I think there is a good intensity, it’s good and things are looking positive”.

Denmark were surprise winners of their qualifying group and finished ahead of more fancied rivals Portugal and Sweden. Morton Olsen’s team have a decent record in games against Netherlands with 5 draws from the last 6 encounters.

Bookmakers Sporting Bet and Totesport offer betting odds of 10/3 that this game will follow the pattern and finish in a draw.

Olsen is considering playing forward Nicklas Bendtner and highly rated defender, Simon Kjaer, in the opener. Both players are returning from injury and Olsen has said “We must decide whether to risk them in the first game. Should we bet everything?”
