The seeds are starting to tumble inside the Winter Gardens.
Gerwyn Price and Nathan Aspinall both waved goodbye to Blackpool on Tuesday night as the quarter-final picture becomes a little clearer.
Some big hitters are back in action on Wednesday as Day 5 looks set to deliver more drama.
Let’s take a look at three of the best tips for Wednesday night’s action, plus the best darts betting offers from the top betting sites.
World Matchplay Darts Betting Tips
Krzysztof Ratajski vs Andrew Gilding – Over 18.5 legs
Despite both Ratajski and Gilding knocking out seeds in their opening round wins, we’re not exactly expecting fireworks in this one.
94 and 95 averages were impressive by both, but in a match where they will both fancy the win, it might well come down to a war of attrition.
Ratajski is the favourite here, but we’re backing at least 19 legs to be thrown in what could be a marathon second-rounder.
Michael van Gerwen to win & most 100+ checkouts vs Joe Cullen
It’s not often you’re Michael van Gerwen and have to play your hardest match in round one at the World Matchplay.
But he did in beating Luke Littler 10-6 in Monday night, and now gets an easier run to the latter stages of a tournament he has already won on three occasions.
His 102 average in round one was a throwback to some of his best performances inside the Winter Gardens, and you can’t help but feel that Joe Cullen will have to play a perfect match of darts in order to lay a glove on the Dutchman.
Cullen averaged three-figures as well against an under-performing Brendan Dolan, and will have to rely on his heavy scoring in order to limit MVG to doubling attempts in each leg.
But this one looks made for van Gerwen, especially considering the pace that Cullen throws.
MVG to do the double with the match win and most 100+ checkouts.
Michael Smith vs Chris Dobey – Over 14.5 180s
Two big-hitters square off here in a battle for the maximum bed.
Both players have the ability to drown their opponent in 180s throughout a match, so their accuracy on doubling will probably determine the winner on Wednesday night.
It’s tight enough in the outrights to ignore, so going with at least 15 maximums here provides plenty of value.
20+ legs could easily be thrown in this one, allowing plenty of time for a barrage of maximums.
