X Factor favourite Matt Cardle could cost bookmakers over £1million
Matt Cardle wowed the judges again with his rendition of Britney Spears’ ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’ on the Guilty Pleasures themed show on Saturday night.
Judge Louis Walsh continued his gushing praise of the painter and decorator when claiming “That version could be a number one hit record!”
Yeah – OK Louis, there’s more subtle ways to get a discount for painting the Manse.
But, Matt goes from strength to strength in his pursuit of fame and fortune and already had the bookies on their guard before putting on another sensational performance.
Despite odds at a short looking 13/8, William Hill laid a bet of £5000 to a Shropshire based customer after hearing Matt’s rendition of Britney’s 1998 number-one hit single.
The UK’s leading bookmaker admitted that Matt already stands to cost them over £200,000 in pay outs should he go on to become the X Factor winner.
X Factor has certainly caught the imagination of punters and bookmakers’ tills are regularly rattling with bets for this year’s contestants and Matt is far and away the most popular choice among the hard-nosed investors.
William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams confirmed that Matt could cost the betting industry vast sums when he said: “Punters could make millions out of a Matt victory and the early signs are that he could well go all the way.”
William Hill have been forced to shorten their odds to 11/8 for Matt to be winning act but Betfred are looking for some more action and offer 7/4.
Wagner defied the bookies odds by avoiding elimination, John Adeleye was the unlucky contestant who was given the boot by Simon Cowell on Sunday’s show and Louis’ wildcard pick remains favourite for elimination from next week’s show at 9/4 with Sportingbet.
William Hill are sticking their neck out offering 8/1 for Katie Waissel’s elimination given the relentless wave of bad publicity she is receiving from sections of the media who seem determined to see her fail.
