Ibrahimovic, 36, returned to Old Trafford earlier this season when nearing his recovery from a serious knee injury suffered in the Europa League last season, but his second campaign has not gone to plan.
The Swede netted 28 goals last term, but he found himself behind new signing Romelu Lukaku when he came back, and United boss Jose Mourinho seems to have lost faith in him.
ESPN report that the MLS side are closing in on his signature, after initially signing for United instead of going to LA in 2016, meaning he is leaving the Premier League as the first major league he hasn’t won.
Should he join the Galaxy, Ibrahimovic will follow in the footsteps of the likes of David Beckham and Steven Gerrard as well as linking up with another former England star Ashley Cole.
