Le Grande Chene can thrive in testing conditions at 2.10 Ludlow and take the 3m 0f Class 3 His Royal Highness The Prince Of Wales Challenge Trophy.
Much of the focus in this race will be on the Venitia Williams-trained Rydalis. The course and distance scorer has a good chance of success here and the handler is on top form, so odds of 6/1 with 888Sport make plenty of appeal and I wouldn't put anyone off a small investment there.
But Le Grand Chene can step up in class today following a gutsy display in the mud at Towcester last time. The 8-year-old gelding looked to be fading with three to jump in the 2m 3f handicap chase, but rallied to take the lead and was forging clear when winning by six lengths from Guanciale.
The Sophie Leech-trained horse also benefits from a weight advantage to all in the field, bar the two rank outsiders in Cool Bob and Epee Celeste who would need massive efforts to outrun odds of 33/1. Going is described as Heavy(soft in places) at Ludlow today and Le Grand Chene looked to have plenty more in the tank when digging deep to score on heavy ground at Towcester, so has every chance of staying the distance.
Some firms have our selection down as short as a 9/1 chance, but there is value available at Coral and with three places on offer a 12/1 each-way bet with them looks the way to go.
