Alistair Whillans-trained W Six Times has posted creditable efforts of late and can get a head in front in the Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle at 2.55 Ayr Today.
Heading the market for the 2m4f test at 4/1 with Betvictor is Millers Reef who was traveling well before unseating at Southwell, but while entitled to respect, there are dangers-a-plenty among the field of eleven runners and it could pay to look further down the handicap given the testing conditions underfoot.
10/1 chance Ancient Times was a winner over course and distance last month and could well be one of those dangers, but the runner-up that day may have the final say on this occasion. W Six Times was traveling admirably before being carried left at the run-in by Ancient Times who shoulders an extra 8lb today, meaning Alistair Whillans 8-year-old re-opposes with an advantage and can be backed at 4/1 with a number of firms including 888Sport and Titanbet.
The selection made his first appearance for this yard over 2m5f on heavy ground at Hexham where he was in a prominant position before falling. He was then third from 9 runners in the mud at Sedgfield and had plenty more to give when completing the 2m1f, so looks to be competing at optimum distance today on suitable ground evidenced by his latest effort at this track.
W Six Times was desperately unlucky not to win over this track and trip last time and another strong bid is expected today.
