Caspian Prince is ideally drawn is stall one and carries today’s vote in the Stellar Group Handicap at 3.15 Chester.
The five-year-old joined Tony Caroll’s Cropthorne tables in November last year and has done well in nine outings for his new trainer picking up wins a Kempton, Wolverhampton and Epsom. The Irish-bred will run off a 7 lbs higher mark for his latest victory at Epsom a fortnight ago when making all on the near side rails to beat Elusivity by two-and-half lengths. Caspian Prince can jump off in front again and make the most of the rails position round the tight Roodeye course at 9/2 with bet365, best price guaranteed.
He’s opposed in the market by course and distance winner Ballista who has claims on his best form but could find it difficult from a middle draw. Ed de Giles-trained Go Nani Go is another danger, the eight-year-old is in in good form, running second at Lingfield on his reappearance and going one better with a victory at Musselburgh most recently. The mount of Franny Norton is well drawn and will be fancied by his yard to make amends for his last Epsom appearance when beaten favourite last July.
Sir Maximilian won first time out last season and looks to be off a decent mark. The five-year-old is having his first run for trainer Tim Pitt, is drawn well in stall four and could be a danger if taking to Epsom’s sharp undulations.
