The Peter Niven-trained Clever Cookie is taken to continue his promising start to flat racing in the Stanjames.com Stakes at 1.45 York today.
Opinion among the top bookmakers is clearly devided on Clever Cookie's chances with the majority of firms quoting odds of 8/1, but Betvictor and the sponsor are accepting bets of 10/1 and they both offer best odds guaranteed.
The six-year-old bay gelding enjoyed a successful jumps campaign with a hat-trick of wins following two runner-up efforts over hurdles and made a winning start to flat racing when switching codes to land a 1m4f minor event at Doncaster last month. Admittedly this is a tougher assignment, but Clever Cookie should cope better than most with the soft ground and is in good hands under the guidance of jockey Graham Lee.
With 18 runners involved this race is not without it's dangers and the principal threat could be Lahhag who was just edged in this race 12 months ago, but John Gosden's five-year-old tends not to act well with this amount of give in the ground and Clever Cookie remians a confident selection.
