Tomorrow's Epsom card is all about the latest renewal of the most famous Flat race in the world, The Derby, first run in 1780 and as legend goes would have been called The Bunbury but for the toss of a coin between the Earl of Derby and Sir Charles Bunbury, the two men responsible for the formation of the great race. The Group 1 Coronation Cup provides a perfect appetizer at 2.40 to the race in which the Aidan O'Brien-trained Australia will attempt to fulfil the hype that has surrounded the son of Galileo and Ouija Board for so long but from a betting perspective the speed test that is the Epsom Dash at 3.15 takes some beating.

It will take less than a minute to cover the fastest five furlongs in the world and after being handed the plum draw in stall 20 the Scott Dixon-trained Even Stevens is expected to lead his rivals a merry dance at the 12-1 available with Stan James. The 6-year-old son of Ishiguru has tremendous early pace and looks to have everything in his favour to take this £100,000 handicap for his 7lb claiming apprentice Matthew Hopkins. With an all-weather rating of 101 the gelding races off a 13lb lower mark on Turf and with only eight stone on his back tomorrow afternoon could well lead from start of finish.

Another horse who like to bowl along in front is Caspian Prince, one of the 8-1 joint favourites, but the mount of Adam Kirby may be unable to dominate from stall 14 and will be racing off a 7lb higher mark than when winning over the course and distance at the April meeting. Smoothtalkingrascal was an unlucky runner-up in the contest 12 months ago but will need lots of luck in running to win from his berth in 18 and a bigger danger could be Elusivity who is thrown-in on his best form and can be backed at a general 14-1.
