Newcastle stage it's very popular Friday evening fixture on the eve of their main Flat meeting of the year featuring the John Smith's Northumberland Plate on Saturday afternoon and as well as hosting the £40k Betfred TV/EBF Stallions Hoppings Stakes ( Listed Race ) ( Fillies and Mares ) at 7.10pm the big betting heat on the 7-race card comes 35 minutes later with the Betfred Mobile Gosforth Park Cup run over five furlongs.
The sprint handicap may have lost a lot of the kudos which made it one of the most important races of it's kind several year's ago but nevertheless it is still a decent contest and as competitive as ever. Newmarket trainer William Haggas sends Asian Trader ( a winner at Nottingham earlier this month ) on the long journey and the mount of 7lb claimer Georgia Cox looks sure to go well, but it is the three 4-year-olds in the race who are of most interest.
David Barron's Robot Boy landed a gamble when winning at Musselburgh last time but Graham Gibbons' mount may struggle to confirm the form with runner-up Red Baron on revised terms. The David O'Meara-trained Bondesire will have to shoulder joint top weight of 9st 12lb although that will be reduced with the 7lb claim of apprentice Josh Doyle and the in-form sprinter looks certain to run her usual game race, however it is stablemate Algar Lad who makes most appeal despite having to shoulder a 6lb penalty for winning at Leicester last week.
Daniel Tudhope's mount is lightly-raced and open to plenty more improvement and, winner of three of his eight starts to date, the son of Kheleyf can build on that easy three length victory over Corncockle and is worth supporting at the guaranteed 9-2 available with Betvictor.
