The 8-year-old sprinter Tagula Night can hardly be described as lightly-raced as the Dean Ivory-trained gelding has had 48 races to date, 35 on Turf and 13 on the All-Weather, but the son of Tagula is at his best over Sandown's five furlongs with 50% of his six Turf wins to date coming at the track and that record can be improved upon again on Friday afternoon when the mount of Ryan Moore is fancied to take the opening race on the card, the Palacegate Touch Handicap at 2.00pm.
Available at a guaranteed 9-2 with Bet365 and Betvictor Tagula Night is perfectly drawn in stall 3 and this prominent racer, despite running off his highest mark for two years, looks certain to make a bold bid to follow up a length victory over Amenable ( with Moore in the saddle for the first time ) under what should be ideal conditions. The early stages of the 5f sprint could be crucial as New Fforest, the mount of top apprentice Oisin Murphy, has shown a tendancy to be slowly away in many of his races and if that is the case on this occasion the selection may be handed an uncontested lead, a big advantage at the Esher track.
Top weight Goldream has been in fine form this season but will find life hard from stall 14 and the main danger could come from another runner who is not particularly well drawn ( 11 ) in Normal Equilibrium. This hold-up performer will need plenty of luck in running but the mount of 5lb claimer Marc Monaghan looked unlucky not to finish second to the strongly fancied Ashpan Sam at Epsom on Derby day and the son of Elnadim, 12-1 with Ladbrokes and Coral, is sure to pose plenty of problems should things fall his way.
