Racing tipster Alan Kelly tips Hot Streak to get the better of warm favourite Sole Power in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York.
The Group 1 contest run over the minimum trip of 5 furlongs has thrown up plenty of surprises over the years and there are a few lively outsiders among today's fifteen declared runners. Monsiuer Joe won a course and distance handicap in May, while G-Force has twice finished in the first two over track and trip and Pearl Secret was fancied to win this event two seasons ago, but disappointed supporters on the day to finish ninth.
Sole Power quite rightly heads the market having won this at 100/1 in 2010 before going on to win the majority of Europe's five furlong races over the next few years, and a win in the Group 1 Kings Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot suggests the gelding remains in good heart. But Hot Streak wasn't far behind on that occasion before finishing seventh in Newmarket’s July Cup and a drop back to the minimum trip coupled with ideal conditions underfooot could see the 9/1 Shot bounce back.
Kevin Ryan's 3-year-old is two from two on the Knavesmire and can make it a hat-trick of wins at York today to give retiring jockey Jamie Spencer a Group 1 win before calling it a day at the end of the season.
