The return to a shorter trip for Acquaint in the Malton Marquees Supporting Jack Berry House Handicap at 5.35 Beverley brings the 20/1 shot firmly into the reckoning.
Betting for the 1m 1f 207yds Class 6 contest is dominated by 85/40 market leader Where's Tiger after winning with a bit in hand over track and trip less than two weeks ago, but a 6lb hike in the weights is enough to deter any investment at such short odds. Indeed, Paddy's Rock could be a real danger to the current favourite having stayed on well for fourth at Ayr last time and is an interesting contender stepping up in trip, while Trinity Star is also progressing well and could be in the final shak-up once again.
However at stand out best odds 20/1 with bet365 it appears Acquaint has been overlooked despite falling to an attractive mark. Racing off a handicap of 54, the John Wainwright-trained 3-year-old lacked the stamina to get home over 2 miles at this venue a month ago, but wasn't a million miles away when fourth over course and distance off a 1lb higher mark in early July. Acquaint races off a rating of 51 today and when factoring in jockey Joe Doyle's 5lb allowance a much improved showing can be anticipated.
Top-weight Scrutiny is another with an outside chance from a tumbling mark, but has been generally disappointing this year and at the current prices it's Acquaint who has the each-way value with Bet365 paying 1/4 odds for the first three horses home. The Stoke based bookie will also grant you a risk-free bet on tomorrow's feature race for backing a winner at odds of 4/1 or greater in this race.
