Madeed is tipped to justify favouritism by landing the Class 3 Betfred Bruntwood Handicap at 5.20 Haydock on Friday afternoon.
Betting for the 1m 2f 95yds contest has been dominated by the 3-year-old who can be backed for no bigger than 13/8 with Betway. Brian Meehan's charge has plenty of competitiors to contend with in the 15-runner affair, but recent performances offer encouragement that the mount of Paul Hanagan will get a head in front today.
Having shown promise when winning as a 2-year-old, Madeed made a modest return to action on his seasonal reappearance at Newmarket in April before being second home of the group that raced on the far side in the Britannia at Royal Ascot. The bay colt then posted a solid effort for third in the Fairmont Stakes at Glorious Goodwood before finishing runner-up at the same venue a fortnight ago, despite making a few mistakes in-running.
Enobled comes next in the betting with Sir Michael Stoute's horse bidding to prove last month's Newmarket flop was a one off, while Automated could set a strong pace in first-time cheekpieces. Croquembouche was a winner at Sandown last time and could go well again, while Mistrioc is lightly-weighted and open to further progress following last month's Hamilton success. But Madeed has gone close in much tougher heats than this of late and all being well is expected to come out on top.
