With Champion Jockey AP McCoy in the saddle, the consistent Provincial Pride is tipped to come out on top at 4.10 Newton Abbot on Monday afternoon.
The Snappy Poet has been napped by a number of newspapers and heads the market for today's 2m 6f Class 4 Handicap Hurdle, but there are no guarantees that a step up in trip will suit the 5-year-old. Bathwick Man has been significantly supported, but is back up in the weights having twice gone close last month, while Strong Wind will likely find this more difficult than when opening his hurdles account over course and distance in July.
Provincial Pride is a reliable sort who for the most part tends to run his race and the booking of AP McCoy today is enough to warrent iterest at the stand out best price of 9/2 with William Hill.
Having put in a number of creditable performances on unsuitably heavy conditions over the winter, the bay gelding came into his own on faster ground in the warmer months. The 7-year-old found only one too good at Uttoxeter in June and duly opened his account over the smaller obstacles at Worcester later that month. A 7lb hike in the weights for that win resulted in another runner-up effort at Stratford-on-Avon before a step up to 3 miles at this venue in August saw the horse pulled up for the first time ever.
Mike Hammond's hurdler bounced back from that blip in good style when just touched off over today's trip at Huntingdon last week and is expected to relish conditions underfoot when they line up at 4.10 this afternoon.
