Today's feature race at Ayr is the William Hill Bronze Cup Handicap which is tipped to go the way of Gran Canaria Queen for Tim Easterby.
The gates will open for this 6 furlong contest at 2.40 Friday afternoon and the improving Gran Canaria Queen looks to have a nice draw in stall 22. The selection was tipped at 16/1 last night and still represents a value each-way bet at 14/1 with the sponsor paying 1/4 odds on the first five horses.
The mare took a couple of runs to get back up to speed early in the summer before finishing runer-up at Musselburgh over the minimum trip and an increase to 6 furlongs put her back in the winners enclosure when comfortably landing a 10 runner Carlisle event on Good to Firm ground in June. The 5-year-old then went down by only a neck in a field of 18 at Redcar later that month and continued to run with credit when third in a class three event at Hamilton Park in early August. She was below par at Ripon two starts back, but looked more like her usual self back at Hamilton three weeks ago and the consistent performer is expected to go well again.
Gran Canaria Queen has finished in the frame in three of her four runs since last getting a head in front, most recently off her current mark of 79. Polski Max is the market leader, but may not be as effective with headgear removed, while Mishaal tends to go better over a longer trip and Cruise Tothelimit was poor on his last visit to Ayr.
The mount of David Allan looks one to side with then, and today's Good to Firm going should put Gran Canaria Queen bang in the mix once again.
