Tiger Jim returns to a more suitable 7 furlong trip in the Groceryaid Charity Handicap at 4.20 Newcastle where he is tipped to land the spoils.
The son of Tiger Hill can be backed at a top price of 7/1 with BetBright which looks like cracking value on the evidence of his last attempt at this trip. Having ran well over 7 furlongs to finish runner-up at Wolverhampton on his final 3-year-old start, the bay gelding then went close over today's course and distance on his handicap debut in early August. Two weeks later and Tiger Jim had his head in front over the same trip at Doncaster and had more in hand than the winning margin of 1 and a half lengths suggests. The selection then went close in big field events over 6 furlongs at today's venue and over a 1 mile trip back at Doncaster, but a return to 7 furlongs will suit him nicely and another stong run is expected.
Leger Legends winner Bob heads the betting, but Tiger Jim wasn't far away in that one and has a slight advantage over the ex-Spanish racer at the weights today. Zacynthus is also thought to have a good chance after tumbling to an attractive mark, but a winless streak of 16 races does little to increase the enthusiasm and Tiger Jim looks a far more reliable contender as well as shouldering the lightest load in the race.
