Rainbow Rock looks every bit the one to beat on the back of his Glorious Goodwood run and is tipped to oblige in the Class 2 Gentrack Velocity Handicap at 4.25 on Wednesday afternoon.
The selection was recommended at odds of 3/1 via our twitter feed last night, but still looks worthy of investment at the current top price of 11/4 quoted by 888Sport as the firm will refund stakes on horses beaten into second by a neck or less.
As form figures of 323120 indicate, the Rock Of Gibraltar gelding has been consistent this season and was sent to the Glorious meeting at today's venue on the back of a dominant display at Beverley in July. Rainbow Rock traveled smoothly throughout the Fairmont Stakes when finding only stablemate Lyn Valley too good and beating third-placed Madeed, with the latter going close in two valuable handicaps subsequently. The 3-year-old looked uncomfortable on firm ground at Ascot last time and can be forgiven that rare blot on his copybook returning to a course at which he produced arguably his best run to date.
Top-weight Blue Surf continues to plug on admirably in the grasp of the handicapper and tends to go well at Goodwood, while Pack Leader also has course form and may have a say. However, it's likely that Jacob Cats could follow our tip home on the evidence of a staying on second at Kempton last time out, suggesting that the 5-year-old should cope with the extra furlong today. Rainbow Rock has youth on his side though, and the mount of Joe Fanning can continue to improve with a visor re-fitted and conditions to his liking today.
