The feature race on today's seven-race Ludlow card is the Betfair Price Rush Handicap Chase at 3.00pm and provides the ex-Nigel Twiston-Davies inmate What A Warrior with a great opportunity to gain his first success for new up and coming trainer Dan Skelton in the extended three mile one furlong contest off what looks a very attractive mark of 122.
Advised at 7-2 on our twitter feed yesterday the son of top stayer Westerner is now a general 5-2 chance, a price which is available with most bookmakers including 888sport who will return stakes on the runner-up if beaten a neck or less. At this time last year the seven-year-old was running off a stone higher mark courtesy of a cracking effort when finding only subsequent Scottish Grand National winner Al Co a half length too good in a competitive handicap at Chepstow that included several decent staying chasers.
While the horse's form tailed-off somewhat in the second half of the season the mount of Harry Skelton must have a great chance of winning for the first time since taking a novice chase over this course in March 2013 if able to reproduce anything like his best on his first outing for a trainer who has a 22% strike rate at the venue. The combination of Jonjo O'Neill and Tony McCoy are likely to provide stiff opposition with Dreamsoftheatre ( 11-2 with Bet365 ) but the grey finds it difficult to get his head in front having finished runner-up on his last three starts and may have to settle for the same position today as trying to concede 5lb to our selection may prove beyond the King's Theatre gelding.
