A trip of 3m 110yds over hurdles awaits eight runners at 2.30 Musselburgh and after a game effort last time out, One For Hockey looks the one to side with at best odds 10/3 with Betfred.
The Nicky Richards-trained gelding showed early promise when landing a bumper at Newcastle in the spring of 2012, but took his time to get the hang of hurdling until posting a solid runner-up effort at Perth in July. A step up to 2 miles 5 furlongs resulted in a comfortable victory back at the same venue the following month and aside from a fall two races back, the horse has been a model of consistency since.
Placed in both complete starts following that Perth success, One For Hockey was last seen finding only one too good at Kelso last month and the feeling is that a sterner test of stamina will being out the best from Brain Harding's mount today.
The selection's main threat looks to be market leader Dun To Perfection who was upped 13lbs in the weights for a wide-margin success at Hexham in May. The handicapper looks to have him in his grasp for now though after a subsequent runner-up effort at Kelso in September with Right To Rule in behind, so One For Hockey can score at the favourite's expense.
