Heading the betting for the 3m 3f Class 5 Handicap Chase at 1.20 Sedgefield, Apache Pilot will need to pull out all the stops to justify odds as short as 6/4 with some firms. The 6-year-old was just touched off on his handicap/chase debut at Hexham earlier this month, but has a bit more to find of 5lb higher in the weights against a number horses with more experience over fences.
At a standout price of 6/1 with bet365, Gibbstown looks the pick of the bunch and will arrive fit following her seasonal appearance over hurdles at Ayr last month. The 8-year-old mare is not known for her hurdling form, but posted several creditable efforts over the larger obstacles in the spring and has to be of interest in this heat.
After finding the frame over 3 miles at Thurles and Musselburgh, the selection got a head in front on heavy ground over an extra furlong at Ayr in March. She then ran well enough off her revised mark for third at Newcastle before making it into the winners enclosure once more, back over 3m 1f on heavy ground at Hexham where she left the impression that a step up in trip would bring further improvement.
Today's testing conditions will suit Gibbstown nicely and she can get the better of the market leader and Debt To Society who ran a stinker last time out. Urban Gale may need a run to get back up to speed, while it's hard to be confident on Crafti Bookie despite the addition of cheekpieces today.
