The Class 1 bet365 Intermediate Hurdle will mark L'Ami Serge's British debut and the consistent King's Theatre gelding looks to have an ideal opportunity to make a winning start to life on these shores. The mount of Barry Geraghty heads the betting for today's 2m 110yds contest at a general 5/2, but it could be worth using 888Sport for the added protection of a free bet refund should the selection go down by up to half a length.
The former Guillaume Macaire-trained horse did all of his running at Auteuil where he performed with great credit despite never getting a head in front. The 4-year-old has found the frame in five of six starts, including finishing second in large-field listed handicaps on the last two occasions, beaten a head when last seen in March. The horse clearly acts well with a cut in the ground and has gone from one good stable to another since joining Nicky Henderson who will have the horse primed for a good run this afternoon.
The main danger in the field is the Willie Mullins-trained Daneking after making a successful handicap debut at Fairyhouse in April, but conceding weight to L'Ami Serge is likely to tell in the testing conditions at Newbury with the same to be said of top-weight Le Mercurey.
