Heading the betting for the Injured Jockeys Fund 50th Anniversary Handicap Hurdle at 2.40 Plumpton, Maria's Choice looks to have been alotted a fair opening mark and has had his chances enhanced with AP McCoy booked. Jim Best's 5-year-old hasn't been seen since finishing mid-division at Newton Abott in August though, and with no soft ground form to speak of there is a case for opposing the market leader here.
One horse which has thrived at this venue in recent months is 5/1 chance with bet365 Hold The Bucks. The Daniel Steele-trained 8-year-old was a runner up over today's trip in January before landing back-to-back course and distance successes on heavy and soft ground on his next two starts. The bay gelding then found only one too strong at Newton Abott in April and didn't relish the step up in trip whan asked to travel an additional 5 furlongs back at Plumpton later that month.
Hold The Bucks was set a stiff task from out of the weights on his seasonal reappearance at Wincanton 11 days ago and with that run under his belt is expected to put in a bold bid dropping back to his favoured 2 mile trip. Freddie Mitchell is in the saddle today and his 7lb allowance will only aid the selection's cause, with conditions underfoot to his liking, Hold The Bucks is the one to be on today.
