Plumpton stage the most valuable race of the day in Britain on Sunday with the At The Races Sussex National at 2.50 in which last year's winner Reblis is fancied to repeat his comprehensive four and a half length victory over Smoking Aces 12 months ago off a 2lb lower mark.
Available at 6-1 with Ladbrokes and Betfair Sportsbook the 10-year-old was done no favours by the handicapper after winning the stamina test last season, being put up a massive 11lb to a rating of 130 from which the son of Assessor could never get competitive in three further runs last spring.
Making his seasonal reappearance at Ascot last November the mount of Joshua Moore looked badly in need of the run that day and it was no surprise to see the horse trail home a well beaten ninth behind Grandads Horse over an inadequate three mile. Stepping up to four mile for the Devon National at Exeter on his most recent start and sent off an unfancied 18-1 chance Reblis finished a distant fourth, again giving the impression the gelding would improve for the run.
Trainer Gary Moore looks to have had the Plumpton marathon in mind for some time and with conditions likely to prove ideal back-to-back victories look more than a possibility on a track where Reblis boasts three wins from six starts. The lightly-weighted Amroth Bay could prove the biggest danger as the eleven-year-old has shown a new lease of life since joining trainer Dan Skelton and could still be in front of the handicapper off a mark of 106.
