The Class 3 Frazer Hines & Heather Moreno Handicap Chase at 3.35 Sedgefield on Sunday afternoon looks like a golden opportunity for Rose of the Moon to return to the winners enclosure after struggling in hotter company since falling in the 2014 Crabbies Grand National. Having fared reasonably well in a Grade 3 on Boxing Day, the grey gelding looks markedly over-priced at best odds 11/1 with Betvictor in what is likely to be a far easier assignment.
The David O'Meara-trained horse landed back-to-back chase wins in late 2012 including on heavy ground at this venue before clinching a fourth win over fences on soft ground at Wetherby in January of the following season. Rose of the Moon was travelling okay in the Aintree spectacle until falling at the 26th and has been set a couple of stiff tests since that setback.
The mount of Jake Greenall was traveling well until weakening the latter stages of the Rowland Meryck Chase when last seen over the festive period and a drop back in trip should put the selection bang there this afternoon. Rose of the Moon has won up to 3 miles 3 furlongs and won't mind a cut in the ground, so has stamina reserves to call upon if the race is run at a quick pace and can get a head in front now rated 1lb lower than his previous winning mark.
