Vodka N Tonic has been well supported for today's Class 4 Hager Design Range Handicap Hurdle at 4.20 Taunton, but Nicky Henderson's 6-year-old is yet to win over timber and can take a while to settle into his races. So while entitled to respect, the current market leader is bypassed on this occasion in favour of a value alternative.
And that alternative is Flashman, who has been going well on the All-Weather at Chelmsford City in recent weeks and rates as a cracking bet at 9/2 with 888Sport (treble odds to 31/2 for new customers) with the added protection of a free bet refund, should the selection finish secind by up to half a length.
Flashman had posted fair form over hurdles in novice company before being switched back to a flat campaign, where the 6-year-old won twice on the bounce before the handicapper caught up with him. Reverting back to jumps, Gary Moore's charge has a fair opening mark for this handicap debut and should at the very least be fighting out the finish on the basis of recent performances.
Top-weight, Hartside looks like being the main danger having only found one too good again off today's mark at Sedgefield when last seen, while recent course fourth Shot In The Dark and Huntingdon fourth Barista are others to note. But with Flashman dropping in class here, a bold bid is expected and the mount of Jamie Moore rates as the best bet in the race at the current odds.
