Mad For Road looked a reliable performer on his last two runs, gaining a belated first hurdles success at Sedgefield 4 weeks ago prior to finishing runner-up at the same venue last week, but a chance is taken on the veteran Knight In Purple who can get the better of the market leader at guaranteed odds of 8/1 with William Hill.
The 11-year-old was back on song at Doncaster in December, prior to finishing a respectable third over track and trip behind Special Wells and Streets Of Newyork on Boxing Day. Freshened up since then, the dual course and distance winner has won off higher marks than today's rating and gets the vote at a venue where he boasts a pretty good record.
Le Fin Bois hasn't set the world alight in three starts this term, but is slipping in the weights as a result and could improve today, while Mr Burbidge should do better now handicapping and Sir Safir reverts back to handicaps on the back of a maiden success at Catterick last month.
Mad For Road is likely to be on the premises, but proven track form and experience make Knight In Purple the most appealing bet at the current odds.
