Run Ructions Run can defy top weight to land the Coral.co.uk Mares’ Handicap Hurdle at Ayr today under the guidance of AP McCoy.
Tim Easterby’s six-year-old has yet to get off the mark in six attempts this season but has been putting up consistent performances against tougher opposition than she’ll face today.
Her last run was in the Pertemps Network Final at Cheltenham where she was far from disgraced when finishing mid-division behind Call The Cops in the three mile Listed race. Previously she’d finished runner up for the third time in the current campaign over a similar distance at Haydock . A four-time winner over the small obstacles and running against her own sex, Easterby’s hurdler can return to the winner’s enclosure at the expense of her seven rivals.
McCoy rides the mare for the first time which could be significant and expecting her to be a popular choice, you may need to be quick to snap up the 9/2 on offer at Boylesports.
Claims can be made for all eight runners but Nicky Henderson’s Spartan Angel could be the biggest danger if seeing out the extended three mile trip. The seven-year-old has progressed nicely in her three previous starts and the way she stayed on when beaten favourite at Newbury last time, suggests the extra three and a half furlongs might suit.
