Saturday's card at Newmarket is all about the first Classic of the season with the Qipco 2000 Guineas due to go off at 3.45 and with our 12-1 ante-post tip Estidhkaar now a general 7-1 chance we can look forward to a good run from the Richard Hannon-trained colt who will be ridden by Paul Hanagan. And it is the retained jockey to owner Hamdan Al Maktoum who is fancied to provide his old boss Richard Fahey with the opening winner at headquarters courtesy of Spirit Of The Law in the Makfi Suffolk Stakes at 2.00pm.
Two runs this season should have put the six-year-old son of Lawman spot-on for tomorrow's one mile one furlong contest and hopefully the gelding will have more luck than when meeting plenty of trouble on his most recent start at Ripon when finishing three and a half lengths behind the in-form David O'Meara-trained Chancery. The horse had plenty of solid efforts to his name last season and as well as getting his head in front at York last June finished runner-up on three occasions beaten a little over three lengths in total.
Despite finishing a well-beaten nineteenth in last season's Cambridgeshire Spirit Of The Law ran well until losing his place inside the last two furlongs and now meets the winner Bronze Angel on 12lb better terms. While the top weight always has to be feared at his favourite Newmarket the mount of LouisSteward may need the handicapper to relent a little before finding the winners enclosure again and bigger dangers look to be the unexposed Top Tug and Persona Grata who has done all her racing on Wolverhampton's all-weather surface and could be open to plenty of improvement switched to turf.
