Champion Court ran well at the Festival last time and can defy top weight to land the Betdaq.com 50% Commission Refund handicap chase at 3.10 Kempton today.
Martin Keighley’s chaser put up an improved show when seventh to Darna in the Grade 3 Handicap Chase at Cheltenham in March and the trainer is hopeful of a big run at Kempton according to his blog.
Richard Johnson will ride for the first time and Champion Court gets the vote in an open looking contest. The tip was tweeted at 7/1 last night but those odds have disappeared and the best bet is now 6/1 with Coral.
Shuil Royale was the overnight favourite and carries confidence after winning both starts for his new yard. But Harry Fry’s charge finds himself on a career high mark and may find one or two too good today.
Best Boy Barney is another to be given its highest rating. Jeremy Scott’s nine-year-old won impressively over course and distance following a four-month break, raised 6lb for that success he won’t need to find much more to figure in the finish here. Caulfield’s Venture has a 5lb pull over Bets Boy Barney for the two-and-a-half length defeat last time but the margin of victory may have flattered the runner up who will have his work cut out to reverse the placings.
Sedgemoor Express is an interesting prospect. Nigel Hawke’s charge has been competing over shorter distances and was running on well in the closing stages at Stratford last month on his first appearance in almost six months. The seven-year-old has been backed at 10/1 this morning and connections may feel the longer trip will suit.
