Ian Williams-trained Conry is almost a stone lower than winning over course and distance and is tipped to land the seven furlong handicap at 7.30 Catterick tonight
The tip was tweeted last night at Coral’s offer of 6/1 but the defection of overnight favourite Finn Class, Piceno and Stonefield Flyer along with steady support in the offices means the nine-year-old will go off at much shorter odds.
The son of Captain Rio saves his best for the Yorkshire track where he has landed six of his seven career wins. Conry’s last trip to the winners enclosure was when completing back to back victories at Catterick last May when successful off a mark of 81. William’s charge will run off 68 today, 13 lbs lower than when getting up to win by a head on rain softened ground 12 months ago.
His odds have shortened throughout the morning but we wouldn’t put anyone off taking the 15/8 with Betway, currently the best bet available.
The rain has also come in time for True Pleasure, another that has shown a liking for Catterick with two course and distances victories when finding some cut in the ground.
Another to look out for is Old Man Clegg. Michael Easterby’s five-year-old finished runner up on his two previous starts and although creeping up in the weights could figure in the finish again.
