Wednesday’s racing at Nottingham features a great quality racecard with the feature the Totepool-sponsored Nottinghamshire Oaks, a listed race over ten furlongs. It’s a competitive affair with 14 runners due to go to post but Luca Cumani’s progressive filly, Pleasant Valley looks to have an outstanding chance following a successful re-appearance at Pontefract in April.
The daughter of Shamardil showed a good turn of pace to win the four-runner handicap and was barely at a canter when crossing the line nine lengths clear of Easy Terms. She appears just the type her trainer excels with and can pick up a fourth career win at 11/2 on bet365 with best odds guaranteed.
Dream Child is the overnight favourite and her form stands up against any of her rivals but Charlie Appleby’s filly has done most of her best work over a mile and a half and the drop back in distance isn’t sure to suit.
Solar Magic is coming from a top yard and steps up in distance following to second place finishes this season. John Gosden’s filly shaped like she’d see further when runner up at Kempton on her re-appearance and will be a danger if staying the extra two furlongs.
Groovejet and Lily Rules ran well in better company last season but neither appeal for this Listed event. The former produced her best efforts over much longer distances while Lily Rules has failed to build on her early promise and finished last of eight on her seasonal debut at York three weeks ago.
The others have much to find on the bare form in order to challenge but there could be enough improvement in Pleasant Valley for her to become a force at this level.
