There are two main contenders for this afternoon's Class 5 Sharp's Doom Bar Handicap at 3.25 Salisbury with Star Fire and Reflation disputing favouritism at the head of the betting. The former was awarded the race in the stewards room after finishing runner-up at Nottingham on her seasonal reappearance in April, but the Dark Angel filly looked far from convincing off her revised mark at Goodwood last time and it could pay to side with the latter at best odds 9/2 with William Hill.
The Richard Hannon-trained 3-year-old has largely been campaigned over longer trips than today's minimum and had gone close over 6f and 7f at Kempton Park in the autumn, prior to running out of steam over a mile at that venue in April. Last time out, the Stimulation colt was switched back to turf at Chepstow and put in a much more pleasing run over 6 furlongs when just held by subsequent Lingfield scorer Lolita and a reproduction of that run on similar ground would make the mount of Pat Dobbs difficult to beat this afternoon.
Magical Daze was unable to carry her maiden form into handicap company and needs to bounce back, while The Wispe could enter calculations having posted several solid efforts in defeat and top weight Aussie Ruler is also feared with first time cheekpieces fitted.
