Express Himself heads the betting for today's Class 3 ApolloBet Weekly Golf Cashback Handicap at 3.40 Haydock having enjoyed a course and distance success at the venue last season, though odds of 15/8 make little appeal for a horse which has so far failed to cope with his revised mark and at 5/1 with Betway, it's Birdman who gets the vote.
The 5-year-old has improved greatly since joining David O'Meara, making a winning start to the campaign in a 16-runner 7f handicap at Thirsk in April before going on to back up that success off 6lb higher over the same trip in another big field event at Doncaster the following week. A further 9lb hike in the weights couldn't prevent Birdman from landing the hat-trick back at Thirsk, winning comfortably by over 2 lengths from Evanescent and there looks to be more to come from the son of Danehill Dancer who went close off today's mark at Ripon a week ago.
Chosen Character is probably the biggest danger to the selection having enjoyed a fair amount of success at this track, including a win in this race last season. The front runner almost made all at Chester last month after a pretty disappointing run of form, so could be difficult to reel in if given an easy lead.
1 pt win - Birdman 5/1 Betway (Money back if beaten a length or less)
