Newcastle's feature race on Thursday 25th June is the Class 2 Seaton Delaval Handicap, due off at 3.20 and looks like being a thrilling contest over a trip of 1m 3y. The betting is headed by Marco Botti's Lacan who arrived late to win at Chelmsford last time out, but a 3lb rise for that success could prevent the New Approach colt from following up here.
Wilde Inspiration is a course winner and tends to run his race, but was held off a career high mark of 90 when last seen at Chester and could once again be found wanting at the weights. However, at the bottom of the handicap, Manchestar makes great appeal at odds of 11/2 with bet365 and looks like the value bet of the race.
Twice in the winners enclosure last season, the 5-year-old son of Elusive City landed back-to-back victories in big field handicaps over 7f at Doncaster and 1m at Redcar under today's rider Tony Hamilton. The bay gelding put up a solid effort when second of 14 back from a year off at Thirsk in May and was probably unsuited by the conditions underfoot when reeled in after going for home too early under a different jockey later that month. Today's Good to Firm going and the fact that Tony Hamilton is back in the saddle should put Manchestar back on track and a much better run can be anticipated, especially when lightly weighted compared to all his competitors.
Course and distance winner Dance and Dance has the ability to win, but has been known to be slow out of the stalls and Red Avenger has done little since landing the Betfred Mile at Goodwood last summer. Dream Walker has been well held on three starts this season, as has Market Share who has a tough task at the weights, while Eutropius looks to be out of his depth in this company.
